1k in 1week for Nepal

Health Goes Global reached their goal of raising 1k in 1week for Nepal. We were monitoring the situation closely through communication with our partners in Nepal at the Kopila Valley Clinic,” says Hannah Akre, Co-Founder and Executive Director. Routine clinic work was shifting quickly as COVID19 cases were popping up in Nepal. This fundraiser was initiated when the crisis in Nepal worsened due to national shutdowns in India.

Many Nepalese people travel to neighboring India for more work opportunities and higher wages. COVID19 led to nationwide shutdowns in India, leaving these Nepalese workers unemployed and homeless. The Indian government agreed to bus over 100,000 Nepalese migrant workers back to Nepal. This led to a crisis at the border where hundreds of thousands of people were stuck, without food and water, waiting for medical tests to prove they are negative for COVID19 before they can take transportation back to their small villages.

Financial support from this fundraiser went directly toward food, water and medical care for these people trying to return home. Additionally, we helped to bring feminine hygiene products, mosquito nets, diapers, and soap to prevent disease and infection. This would not have been possible without our partnership with BlinkNow, the organization that started the Kopila Valley Clinic. Their staff and medical workers were on the ground day in and day out, driving to all border checkpoints to disperse these lifesaving supplies and welcome the migrant workers home.
